A
reversible lung disease characterized by obstruction or narrowing of the
airways which are typically inflamed and hyperresponsive to various stimuli.
Asthma is very common to Filipinos, Asians and other
countries. This condition can strike at any age, half of all cases first occur
in children younger than age 10.
Here are helpful travel tips for people with Asthma:
Prepare your travel
- Prepare an asthma travel pack containing inhalers, allergy medications as prescribed by your doctor.
- Prescription of your medication in case of emergency.
- Doctor’s phone number and your insurance card.
- Your peak flow meter.
Getting to your destination
- If you are travelling by air, prepare your nebulizer and asthma medicines in your hand carry luggage.
- If you are travelling by car, drive with the windows closed with air conditioning on to avoid allergens from entering your car. Place your medications near you so that you take them right away and easily when needed.
Choose a place to stay
- Research and ask for a smoke-free areas and allergy-proof rooms.
- Bring your own blanket, pillow case and beddings to ensure prevention of dust mite exposure.
- Ask for a fragrance-free room, free from scented shampoo, soaps, lotion or cleaning products.
Going to the beach
- Prepare a fragrance-free sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Adequate water.
- Analgesics as recommended by your doctor.
