Fallacy: A person
suffering from diarrhea should not take any food.
Fact: Loose Bowel Movement is a rapid movement of fecal
matter through the intestine resulting in and producing more frequent loose,
watery, or excessive loss of water and electrolytes that occurs with passage of
unformed stools. It is a symptom of many conditions and may be caused by many
diseases.
This is characterized by a sudden change in frequency and
quality of stools. It is usually self-limiting but can result in dehydration. Uncontrolled
diarrhea may lead to severe dehydration and shock.
It is important to replace fluids that are loss during
frequent defecation. Food intake is okay as long as diarrhea is not associated
with vomiting.
There is no supportive research that food is contraindicated
during loose bowel movement. Increase fluid intake is needed and may have diet
as tolerated. If LBM persists and become severe, immediately consult your
doctor.
